Description
Sentinel Island Light, along with Five Finger Islands Light, is credited with being one of the first two lights in Alaska. The first light was witness to several shipwrecks, including that of the S.S. Princess Sophia, in which nearly 350 people died and the sole survivor was an English Setter. In 1935, the original wooden light was removed and was replaced by an Art Deco tower, as was popular to do in the 1930's. The original keepers quarters were left.
