Description
The lighthouse at Bluff Point on Lake Champlain's Valcour Island was established in 1874 and went inactive in 1930 when the light was moved to a black skeletal steel tower. The lighthouse itself is octagonal mounted atop a two story empire-style limestone and wood keeper's residence. The upper floor of the residence is clad with red shingles the lower floor is limestone. The light was moved back to the tower in 2004 by the USCG.
The Lake Champlain Transportation Museum offers trips out to the island by boat in the summer. Long telephoto views of the light can be had directly across the lake from the shore south of Plattsburg.
