Description
The Morro Nuevo lighthouse or Faro Morro Nuevo if you prefer, stands in a remote region on the southeast point of Peninsula Valdes on the north side of the entrance to Golfo Nuevo. The lighthouse was built in 1918 and is a square steel skeletal tower that is painted brown with red and white slatted daymarking. Interesting, an attempt was made to convert this lighthouse to wind power in 1982. That attempt failed and the light was converted to solar power in 1984.
I got to see the flash of this light in the predawn when our ship was entering Golfo Nuevo from the balcony of our stateroom. Unfortunately, when we were leaving Puerto Madryn that evening I was occupied with trying to get some shots of the Punta Ninfas lighthouse and didn't get a chance to photograph Morro Nuevo. There is, however, a photograph of this very remote light on the website maintained by Servicio de Hidrografia Naval. The link for that page is below.
