Description
Wooden towers were built on both the north and south breakwaters protecting the entrance to Betsie Lake at Frankfort, MI, beginning in 1873. A 44 foot iron tower was built on the south pier in 1912 and subsequently moved to where it now stands on the north breakwater in 1932. At the time of the move, the tower was placed on a new base that raised its height from 44 to 67 feet.
