Description
The Ambrose Lightship, LV87/WAL512, served on station at the Ambrose Chanel from 1908-1932 before being moved to several other duty stations over the course of her career as a lightship. The vessel is now moored at the South Street Seaport. Lightships served along the Ambrose Channel until 1967 when the lightships were replaced by the Ambrose station, a Texas-style platform that stood 90 feet above the ocean's surface on legs driven 190 feet into the seabed.
