Description
The light at Coney Island or Norton Point was built in 1890 to aid ships coming into New York harbor. The light stands in what is now a private gated community and is not generally open to the public (I've tried on several occasions) although it is occasionally opened for group tours. The 4th order Fresnel lens originally in the lantern room is now on display at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C.
