Description
The New Point Loma Lighthouse was built in 1891 to replace the Old Point Loma Lighthouse higher above because of the problems of seeing the light in the fog. The new light sits down closer to sea level and was more effective. The lighthouse consists of a 70 foot skeletal steel tower with a black lantern room.
This lighthouse is best photographed in the afternoon if you have a choice of times to visit. There are good views of the light from the fence around the perimeter of the Coast Guard station.
