Description
The Braddock Point lighthouse is now a private residence that was available for sale when I visited there in October, 2008. The original lighthouse was built in 1895 (see "corner"stone photograph) and light was first exhibited from the 110 foot tower in 1996. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1954, with the upper 2/3 of the tower removed because of structural damage. The lighthouse was sold to private owners who have done extensive rennovations and rebuilt the tower to its present height of 65 feet. The tower was relighted in 1996.
While the lighthouse is privately owned and the grounds are not open for visitors, you can get a good view of the lighthouse from the street in the winter when the leaves are down. There is also a sign on a telephone pole just up the street from the Braddock Point lighthouse for Bogus Point Park - basically a public right of way to a small open area on the beach from which you get an excellent view of the adjacent lighthouse.
