Description
The first lighthouse established at Cape Jervis, at the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula, was built in 1871. The foundation of the original lighthouse is still present, somewhat nearer the water than the current 1972 tower and can be seen in the foreground of the posted photo. The present tower is a inverted pyramidal structure standing 59 feet tall that serves to mark the northern entrance to the Backstairs Passage.
