Description
Active A critical place for lake mariners is Whitefish Point. Not only is it the turning point for vessel traffic in and out of Superior, but also is the only shelter within 75 miles of the open lake. Many a lakeboat has struggled to reach the point. Some have never made the distance needed to find the shelter. This light and surrounding buildings have been restored to one of the best maritime and lighthouse museums on the Great Lakes. There is a gift shop as well. On display is the actual bell of the EDMUND FITZGERALD, removed from the wreck and restored in 1995.
