Description
Built in 1817, Old Baldy is North Carolina's oldest standing lighthouse. The historic structure dominates the landscape on Bald Head Island which is located at the confluence of the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. A replica of the 1850s keeper's cottage adjacent to the lighthouse serves as the Smith Island Museum.
Passenger ferry runs from Southport to the island.
