Description
Round Island Light was the second of two towers. The first had to be rebuilt when shore erosion from storms was threatening the foundation of the tower. In 1859, a new tower was built out of brick, but was unfortunately toppled on September 27, 1998 by a storm surge from Hurricane Georges.
Today, the Round Island Lighthouse Preservation Society is working on rebuilding the light and trying to use a large portion of the original tower.
